We need butts in the seats this year. Student disinterest will be used by the opponents of Oregon wrestling to justify the decision to drop the sport.
This is a picture of a student spirit group that promotes basketball at the university in the town where I currently live. In the days before the team was any good, they'd hustle fans from campus by placing sandwich boards at strategic places on campus, putting posters up in the dorms, and passing out fliers in the dorm lunch lines.
Back in Finley's heyday, wrestlers who belonged to fraternities rallied their house mates to come to matches. Are there any current students out there who would put together a spirit group for wrestling?
Come up with a name: Mac Mat Mad Men, or whatever. The guys in the picture are the Reed Rowdies, named after Reed Arena at Texas A&M. School must be just starting at Oregon, so how about forming such a club for wrestling at the U of O?
You could even apply to form an official student organization, which would give you certain rights on campus, i.e., using campus building to hold meetings, etc.
